Rugeley Power Station Brass Band
Home, sweet home!
Rugeley Power Station and the Clubhouse

It was in September of 1981 that a small group of Rugeley Power Station employees and friends first got together to form the basis of the Rugeley Power Station Brass Band. The group was set up as, and indeed still is, part of the Power Station employees' Sports & Social Club, even though nowadays, there are no current employees who are members of the band.

Membership of the band is available to anyone with an interest in traditional British brass band music, and in fact the band draws its members from quite a wide area of Staffordshire and the West Midlands.

With the support of the management teams of both the Power Station and its Sports & Social Club, the band has grown from strength to strength and is now established as a firm favourite in the area, making regular appearances in concerts, both indoors and out, and at local festivals and other events.

The Band exists "for amusement only", members reckoning that they enjoy themselves too much to want to get involved in the rigours of the contesting scene!

The band regularly travels abroad, the first trip having taken place in 1993 when we visited Verdun in North-Eastern France. A 'home from home' relationship was then set up with Cannock's German twin town Datteln, there having been four visits in the period 1996 to 2006. In 1998 the band travelled to Holland to join in the celebrations of the 750th Anniversary of the town of Ommen and in 1999 visited the Mayenne district of North West France as guests of a local wind band, L'Orchestre d'Harmonie de St. Denis de Gastines. In 2004 we had a fantastic weekend in Paris, and in 2007 we stayed closer to home with a weekend trip to Wales to join the Harlech Band in concert. More information on these excursions can be found on the "Foreign Friends" pages. A new destination for the band in 2008 will be Lichfield's German twin town Limburg-an-der-Lahn.

New members and visiting bandsmen are always welcome to the Tuesday and Thursday evening practice sessions held in the Power Station Clubhouse. However it is necessary to contact us first.
